[Dick's only just made his way back to the hotel. Most of his day has been spent on stakeout by Neil Perkins' office. Not to follow him. He seems fairly normal. But his assistant is interesting.]
[And annoying. Which is why Dick looks a bit put out as he comes out of the bathroom, having been in the shower. An expression that eases when he sees Bruce and he puts the towel back over his head to dry his hair.] Yeah, I am. Thanks.
[The room is basically a mirror of the one that Bruce is sharing with Diana. So there's a table and a couple chairs by the window. And two bags by the closet that Dick and Roy have obviously been living out of.]
( bruce doesn't exactly cook and with living out of motels and the like in their time here, takeout has been their go-to in terms of food, if not eating out. plus, when a cheeseburger is something like seventy cents or so in this time, how can one resist?
on the table there, he sets the bag down, the contents being fries and some cheeseburgers. enough for two but also if dick wanted them all, he wouldn't stop him.
a glance around the room, knowing it well enough with it being so similar to the one he and diana have, he looks back over to dick, standing there with hands gently slipping into his pockets. this is when small talk happens. something he's not good at it. something he doesn't particularly like. work is always so much easier for him to talk about, but. that's not what this visit is about. at least he's trying to not make it be. )
He's picked up a job. Same sort of thing I've been doing. [Bouncer. Nobody needed much information for that.] I've asked him to keep an eye out for Agatha, but I doubt that she'll show up in that part of town.
[She didn't seem the kind who went to bars, after all.]
[He lets the towel fall around his shoulders as he walks over to take a seat, leaning forward against the table.] Thanks for this. I would have gone out in a bit to get something myself. But it's nice to have a couple hours to relax a bit.
( a nod, he lets dick get himself settled β lets him poke through the bag and have something to eat if he wants while bruce just... stands there. hands in pockets. trying not to come off as though he doesn't want to be here. it's not that he doesn't, want to be here, he's just... he hasn't made much of an effort to be here. with any of them. and he's still not entirely sure he should, but. he's still here. now. )
I made a trip to Excelsior the other day. [It hadn't been a long trip, but even now, the technology was better than it should be for the time period.] Took a little bit, but I was able to get the stocks sorted out. Once the certificates arrive, I'll tuck them in the tunnels under Descendant for Babs to pick up.
[Dick grabs a burger and some of the fries before shoving the bag toward Bruce.] Will you please sit down and eat as well? You're making me nervous.
( that was his intention with this little visit to his room, so. he sits, when asked. across from dick in one of the chairs. the crinkle of the bag fills the brief moment of silence between them as he looks to it β as he furrows his brows some before he goes and takes a burger out for himself, slowly unwrapping it. watching the paper peel away as he does. )
[Dick blinks for a moment, then shakes his head.] You may not have met her yet, but she's probably only 8 or 9 in your Gotham. Babs is Barbara Gordon, Commissioner Gordon's daughter. Though...he's only a detective for you right now, I think?
[He picks up a fry, chewing on it because he really is hungry.] She's also Batgirl. Or Oracle, depending on a few things.
( lifting the cheeseburger to take a bite out of, he refrains from doing so and just stares to dick when he offers him the explanationβ the identity of who babs is. )
Yeah. I know he has a daughter.
( because of course bruce would know things like that about someone he "works with" if even loosely. )
Why is she... Batgirl?
( the look on his face says it all with what he might be thinking. )
[Given how so many of his kids have come into his care, it's an honest question.]
[Dick snorts softly and grins.]
Well, to start with, she saved my Bruce from a kidnapping while driving to a costume ball dressed as a female Batman. Bruce tried to tell her that she wasn't allowed to do it because of her gender. Babs' reply to that was that Bruce wasn't her father and couldn't tell her what to do. And wouldn't tell her dad on her. Honestly, of all the many young men and women that Bruce inspired, Babs is probably the most grounded. She has a library sciences degree and did a law degree afterward.
[Technically, Dick also has a law degree. Online classes were great.]
She's probably also the best hacker I know, with TJ running a close second. And I should say, she's also really, really good at telling you to your face when you're being dumb.
( it's strange to hear of things that have happened to some other version of him. that may or may not happen to him at some point in the future. if he's to leave here, that is. now he wonders if that account that had said something to him prior to their coming here had been her. had been barbara. )
So Gordon's ok then.
( because it seems as if every kid he comes across either doesn't have a family or much of one to begin with. gordon, though they've only known each other for two years now... he's a good guy. a good cop. and bruceβ batman trusts him. )
He is when I'm from. Which means he's okay for Jay and TJ. I can't make promises for everybody else.
[He didn't get a chance to talk to Babs very much before he left. He's fairly certain that Gordon is fine in Jason's, Junior's and Tim's worlds. Which only leaves Babs. And it's not exactly an easy thing to ask.]
Babs and TJ are the ones that came to this life entirely of their own volition, with their families intact. [No matter Dick's personal opinions of the Drakes.]

You invest in those stocks you mentioned?
