I mean, if we wanted to be REALLY ridiculous, we'd find out if there's any urban caves and see if we could tap into those. But that might be a bit too extra.
Yeah, garage would be great. We'll have to see what's around the building we choose.
Given that I currently have two pre-teens, might be best to pick a cafe.
[The next text is the address of a cafe close to Dick's apartment. Given that the preteens in question are Bruce and Tim, it's not too bad to leave them on their own.]
[Because of course he's in town. Dick sort of expected that when he wanted to meet up. So Dick lets the other two know where he's going, then heads off. So when Jason arrives, Dick's already there, having found a corner table and already ordered coffee for them both.]
( dick gets himself comfortable, just in time for jason to show up and saunter his way right on over to dick's booth. he slides inn across from him, and offers a quiet thanks to the waitress when she brings over coffee. coffee is always great, he could always use a good cup of caffeine, which is why he's immediately raising it up to his mouth to take a sip from the mug. )
Don't know how you're not losing your shit constantly. One's enough to make me question why the hell I thought it'd be a swell idea to let them into my apartment, an' I'm not even handling B.
Because B at least has his memories, so he's actually a lot easier to deal with than you'd think. [He picks up his own coffee, just folding his hands around it for the moment.] Tim's weird because he remembers, but he also thinks he's, like, 7. And his brain is okay with that.
( he hasn't seen seven year old tim. but he'd also spent the last few days under five feet tall and jason remembers it about as well as he remembers anything else from when he was twelve, so. the coffee gets set down, so jason can slouch back against the booth without anything in hand. )
So. Kon's gone, little D's back from his undercover mission, Tim's holing up in the safehouse with his computer, B's still tiny, Duke's here, Tiny Tim's also now tiny--am I missing anything?
[Dick blinks at the start of that, but nods along.]
This is the first I'm hearing about Kon being gone, but...given everything, I'm not surprised this is the first I'm hearing about it. Tim wouldn't want to bother me when I've already got this much going on.
[Which means he needs to get ahold of his other little brother and figure out what's happening there.]
[He takes a sip of his coffee, finally, with a grimace that has nothing to do with the coffee itself.] I definitely need a bigger place.
I noticed he was only going outside to go to the bar. Hadn't heard Kon chatting on the safehouse bugs, and he hadn't been in frame of the camera outside their apartment either.
( it was mostly incidental stalking, but he hadn't even needed it; asking tim what was up was enough to get him to spill. but it's also--part of the lead up to what calling dick out here was for anyway, so. )
Dickie, Rayner, and I're moving into Central. I've got them apartment hunting for something that'll work shortterm. ( jason drops a hand down into his jacket, pulls out his phone and unlocks the screen, sifting through a few before he's dropping it onto the table and sliding it across to dick. it's open on a banking application, on a transfer screen listing just over thirty grand ready to transfer over. ) We're all gonna need someplace bigger at this rate.
[Dick blinks at the phone, then back up at Jason. Then back to the phone.]
Jay and I have been working on that. It's part of what the Coyote Ugly nights have been about. [He knows how to use his assets and isn't afraid to do it for a good cause.] B's taken over an old dorm building in Excelsior. There's some apartment buildings here that could be useful, but it would be a lot of work.
I know, I told Junior he needs to work harder 'cause he's clearly slacking at showing off.
( with a snort, forearm resting against the table. )
I'm a little offended you'll take B's crappy place over my heavily fortified place in NYC, but I'll get over it. A lot of work means a lotta money, an' given my--late night hobbies, I've been getting my own funds up. Told you I'd help.
I haven't been invited to the heavily fortified place in New York City. [Which is at least part of it. Because it was always kinda Jason's area, so Dick stayed away.] And I mostly mentioned it because I've been looking for ideas about how to do it. What sort of buildings would be good to renovate so that we all have our own space but bits can also be changed to what we need, too.
[A garage. Medical room. Communal kitchen or each place having their own? He's been putting a lot of thought into this.]
And I know you said you'd help. And I am very, very appreciative of it. [Being here means he can't let his pride get in the way of things. Not when it comes to family.] Thank you.
That was before everything got messier. ( a loose lift of his shoulders, before he's reaching for the salt shaker. just something to keep his hands busy, he's not that salty. or in need of being saltier. ) You can come over, I'll let you in.
( partially because he figures at this point, it's been half a year and nothing's gone so south between them that he's felt the need to hide. partially because he's tired and hasn't slept well in--weeks, and he knows damn well he can rely on dick when he needs someone. which he really, really needs now. as does dick himself, even if jason's fairly certain he isn't the guy for the job. )
Dickie junior got into my head a bit ago. ( mostly what this meeting is for--that and tim. ) Into one of my nightmares. 'bout the Joker. ( he says it casually, voice even even if it's quiet, for jason. ) Saw what happened. I don't know how to--fix that.
